Executive Director

Gabriel Sanders

Gabriel Sanders founded the Opportunity Housing Trust in March of 2024.

Born in Sonoma County, Gabriel came to Monterey to earn his Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. After graduation, he spent time administering public health and housing programs for the County of Sonoma and the State of California. He returned to Monterey to advocate for affordable housing development policy before founding his own housing development consultancy. His work has helped bring to life mixed-income rental projects across Monterey Peninsula communities.

OHT materialized from conversations with a mentor in the community development industry, Diane Coward, a former board member for Proud Ground, the largest community land trust in the Pacific Northwest, and Principal at Re:Vision West. As an innovator with an eye for opportunity, Gabriel knew that Monterey County could benefit from a vehicle to create permanent affordable homeownership opportunities for the local workforce.

In his spare time, Gabriel spends time pampering his two rescue cats, Apollo and Athena, reading science fiction and fantasy, pouring and tasting wine, and humbling himself playing games online.
