Opportunity Housing Trust

The Monterey Peninsula’s First Community Land Trust

Our chance for a more inclusive, vibrant, and sustainable community

Who We Are

Opportunity Housing Trust (OHT) is Monterey’s first Community Land Trust (CLT): a nonprofit founded to preserve and create affordable housing by stewarding land for local benefit. We create equity-building housing opportunities for members of our workforce so they can live within the community they serve.

How We Do It

OHT acquires land for development in both low-density neighborhoods and high-density urban areas near jobs, transit, and schools to create a variety of affordable housing options for low- to moderate-income households.

We ensure long-term affordability by setting housing prices based on income levels, retaining land ownership through long-term ground leases, providing financial assistance to buyers, and enforcing resale restrictions to balance homeowner equity with ongoing affordability.

Our mission is to provide homes that remain affordable for families and individuals, enabling them to live in vibrant, safe, and connected neighborhoods with access to opportunities in the communities they serve.

Opportunities for You

Do you have a home or land you’d like to donate?
